Maybe you can borrow some from Hussein's repository explorer for OAI-PMH? 
although his service doesn't seem stable now. It is a c implementation and 
cgi front end.

The unapi_link greasymonkey script can be useful to play with unapi 
service, but it doesn't do any validation.
