Milestones: Standard code, forms
ALA formalizes “Interlibrary Loan Code”
- Statement of principles and philosophy
- Several revisions released (1917, 1940, 1952)
- Not strictly followed as a standard; too much local variation everywhere
Work on standardization of elements of bibliographic request
- Promote thoroughness, verification
- Today (2001!) ALA-approved forms remain basis for many libraries’ services and product market
- (napster did this!)
Benefits: baseline service, request models
